Seminar on The German Shepherd dog breeding, management and training (Pakistan Siegers Show-2017)

A seminar titled as " German Shepherd dog breeding, management and training " was held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Senate Hall, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The seminar was a part of the two day National Pakistan Siegers Show 2017 held at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. This was a great National level event brought about by GSDCP and kind auspices of the worthy Vice Chancellor Professor. Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan (S.I). The show had participants from Pakistan as well as from Germany, Siberia and other parts of the world. Mr. Lothar Quoll, the Vice president of Landesgruppe Bayern-Sud since 2013 and Federal SV Breed Commissioner since 2013 was the key note speaker of the seminar. The seminar was chaired by Worthy Dean FVS Professor Dr. Ahrar Ahmed Khan, coordinated by Prof(R) Dr. Laeeq Akbar Lodhi (Former Dean,

Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad) and Dr. Khurram Ashfaq (Lecturer, Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, FVS, UAF).

Purpose of the seminar was dissemination of technical information related to the prior mentioned topic amongst students of the veterinary medicine.

The seminar helped to acquaint the audience with the most recent certification tests, the genetics and basis of a sound German shepherd breeding, management and training program. The audience were shown the official documentary of the Kennel Club Germany detailing the training of German shepherd dog behavior, importance of pet - owner bond, different body parameters of a healthy dog and the properties of German shepherd as a watch dog.

The physical health, Size of the dog, breeder’s benefit, blood line and the breeding standards of the German shepherd dog are five basic concerns in keeping German shepherd dogs as per Mr. Lothar added. The history of the breed of German shepherds was also briefly explained.

The seminar on this topic was positively ascertained by the students and the technical details illustrated by the documentary along with the question answer session, equipped the students with the practical knowledge about the topic. The Worthy Dean FVS Professor Dr. Ahrar Ahmed Khan had given the note of thanks at the end of seminar. He greatly appreciated the efforts of management team of the PSS-2017. He further emphasized and said “This forum is and will always be welcoming and supportive for the positive efforts like this show”.

The series of these well-organized technical seminars provide golden opportunities for the students as they may clutch the most recent and practical knowledge regarding various aspects of veterinary field, as elucidated by the brilliant professionals and coordinated by worthy leadership of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Faculty of Veterinary Science, UAF.
