Secondary Research:

What platform sells the most in the uk?

According to www.wikipedia.com , Action, Audio and console were the 3 most

selling platform of games sold in the united kingdom.

What are the most popular genre of games?

In 2013, the most popular genre of game was action, with a 31.9% rating, the less popular genre of

game was flight, with a 0.1% rating.

Average price of popular video games?

The average cost of video games at UK retail is at an all-time high, new research has suggested.

According to GfK Chart-Track figures posted on MCV, customers spent an average of £29.42 on each

single video game purchase in 2013.

The average price of individual video games is up by £3 on 2012.

Chart-Track believes that the increased prices are a result of fewer budget games and the high cost

of next-gen releases.

The retail research company has suggested that Xbox One and PS4 games are likely to drop in price

within a year of launch.

The best selling video game franchises?

This is a list of best-selling video game franchises that have sold or shipped at least 5 million copies.

Unless otherwise stated, numbers indicate worldwide units sold, ordered alphabetically whenever

two or more list the same amount. The exception are the ones specifying shipments, which have

lower precedence than others listing sales.

Franchise sales include expansion packs even though they are not considered full video games. For

best-selling individual video games, see List of best-selling video games. The sales figures given

below do not include arcade game sales, which can be found at List of highest-grossing arcade video

games.

How much money does the gaming industry make in sales every year?

The worldwide video game marketplace, which includes video game console hardware and software,

online, mobile and PC games, will reach $93 billion in 2013, up from $79 billion in 2012, according to

Gartner, Inc. Driven by strong mobile gaming and video game console and software sales, the

market is forecast to reach $111 billion by 2015.

Mobile games are the fastest-growing segment of the market, with revenue set to nearly double

between 2013 and 2015 from $13.2 billion to $22 billion (see Table 1).

"As mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) continue to grow, the mobile game category will show

the biggest growth due to the entertainment value provided by games compared with other app

categories," said Brian Blau, research director at Gartner. "This growth is fueled by healthy premium

mobile device sales globally and a desire by consumers to play games on these multifunction devices

that are capable of displaying increasingly sophisticated game content."

2013 is an important year for the game industry as Sony, Microsoft and recently Nintendo are

releasing their next-generation video game consoles to a market that may be moving in another

direction due to the popularity of mobile devices.

"Sony and Microsoft are releasing their game consoles in November and pent-up demand for these

new consoles has caused a temporary reduction in game console hardware sales during 2013, but

growth will resume during 2014 and sales of existing console hardware are forecast to grow from

$15.9 billion today to $22.7 billion in 2015," said Mr. Blau. "In stark contrast, dedicated game

handheld devices and traditional PC games will play a smaller role in the game market and cease to

be important game platforms.

What are people looking for in a game?

What are the top 3 most popular horror games?

From current research, I have seen that the 3 most popular horror games I have seen are;

(Slender man 2D: Sanatorium, The house: 2, Silent hill room 304).

Slender man 2D: Sanatorium

In this game, you have a flashlight and a person to move around

a one-dimensional screen. The light allows you to see only a

small circle of the screen, meaning that you have to move and

navigate in the dark. This may have made the game too difficult

for some people, though you can see that the game is trying to

scare you. The ghostly face if you die is fairly novel, which makes

sense since the game is so hard that your character will probably

die a lot of times. If you can get the hang of it, then it may be a

nice distraction for an hour or so.

Reviews: From reading over about 8 pages of peoples reviews, people retain this game is by far one

of the scariest games from its suspiciousness. Ratings of hardness were probably rated at 8/10.

Basically it was a game to rage quit at..

Some of the reviews I read really made the game slender man sounds like it has a lot of suspense,

that’s the type of thing I want my game to have.

From current research, I have seen that the 3 most popular adventure games I have seen are;

( Middle earth: Shadow of Mordor, Grand theft auto V, The last of us ) .

The last of us

The Last of Us is a third-person survival horror action adventure video game created exclusively for

PlayStation 3. The game was developed by a portion of the employees at Naughty Dog, while the

other half of the company went to develop Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception; established for the

purpose of creating new intellectual property as well as continuing the Uncharted series

simultaneously.

Set in the post-apocalyptic United States, the game tells

the story of survivors Joel and Ellie as they work

together to survive their westward journey across what

remains of the country to find a possible cure for the

modern fungal plague that has nearly decimated the

entire human race.

What a tense, emotional and full of action game. The best thing about this game is how it first

creates a father and daughter like relationship b/w Joel and Ellie, and then how successfully it

creates a bond b/w the player and that relationship. I mean you move around with Ellie and you

start caring for her. Like whenever a fight broke out with the infected or the bandits and someone

from them jumped at Ellie, so yes, anyone thinking of getting a PS4, this should be the first game you

should pick up.

From current research, I have seen that the 3 most popular puzzle games I have seen are;

( Portal: 2, Monument valley, Gunpoint ).

Portal: 2The highly anticipated sequel to 2007's Game of the Year, Portal 2 is a hilariously mind-

bending adventure that challenges you to use wits over weaponry in a

funhouse of diabolical science.

Using a highly experimental portal device, you'll once again face off

against a lethally inventive, power-mad A.I. named GLaDOS. And this time

you won't be alone. Meet an expanded cast of characters as you think

your way through dangerous, never-before-seen areas of Aperture

Laboratories.

Break the laws of spatial physics in ways you never thought possible, with

a wider variety of portal puzzles and an expansive story that spans a single

player and co-operative game mode.

Reviews:

From the first moments of waking up in the rusting Aperture Science facility to right before the

credits roll, Portal 2 rarely falters. The world is bigger, the story thicker, and the character

development more surprising. The mania of GLaDOS, the facility's operator, is molded into

unexpected forms alongside a host of brutally funny personalities. The history of the Aperture

Science facility is filled in, character origins discussed, and though its pacing suffers as it occasionally

strikes a more serious tone, an abundance of cruel jokes and cheerfully sincere death threats

prevent it from losing its sarcastic charm. When you're not staring at your screen with wrinkled,

pained expression on your face trying to figure out a puzzle, expect to be laughing.

Overall ratings of the game Portal 2.

From my research, I have found out that these games are the top pc suspense games. They include

features like darkness, emptiness, the feeling of being alone, no music until action. These features I

will be using in my game to get the horror aspect.

From my research, I have found that these games are the top pc adventure games. They include

various scenes to work through with loads of landscape to go on and the ventures into mysterious

places so it links in with the horror aspect.

From my research, I have found that these games are the top pc puzzle games. They include difficult

parkour to complete and receive something to move you onto the next scene of horror.

The game me and Rehana will be doing is a horror, adventure and puzzle.. I have got ideas from one

horror, one adventure, and one puzzle game. I have took the descriptions and the reviews of each

game I looked at so I can read over and get quite a brief look at what we will be creating.

Basically it will be a character that starts off in –lets say a graveyard- the puzzle for you to do will pop

up on the screen, you have to complete the puzzle step by step to cause something to happen, for

you to find and move on to the next scene.. and so on.

In secondary research, I have researched all about the things I will need to know about my game, like

what games are the most popular, and what features are most important. I created about 8 pages of

work to do with what I needed to do and got a general overdraft of what I need to know.

In the research I have done I have found out about 3 horror games, 3 adventure games, and 3 puzzle

games. The research has give me results of the average price of £29.42 on a single game. I have also

found out that the best video game franchises are expansion packs. I have also found out that the

amount made on selling games globally is £111million. People look for visuals, audio, gameplay and

storyline in a game. Knowing that these 4 things are most important to people, I can make these the

main importance’s in our game so it’s a best seller. Horror and adventure will be the main aspects of

the game, puzzle isn’t the popular so it will not be a main feature.
