Twice- catfish and the bottlemen

Genre: Indie/Rock

Conventions of the genre we will use/challenge: Indie music videos usually involve clips of a live performance, we will be challenging these conventions. The reason for this is that we decided to just have non-diegetic sound being used, the use of a band would not have fitted our preferred option of involving a party.

We will however be using the conventions of a narrative performance, narrative performances are most common in indie performances and the lyrics of the song usually tell a story.

Which record company would release our video: Island or Communion, these are the companies that released Catfish and the Bottlemens videos and so it would be appropriate to use this platform as the target audience is the same for both our video and the original video.

Representations we will include: The representations of youth, both stereotypical and counter stereotypical. We aim to show the stereotypical side of youth whilst also showing how some individuals will not conform to things such as drinking, smoking etc. Within our video we wish to show how some are peer pressured into these kind of things.

How will you represent the artist: Within our music video we will take advantage of the use of costumes by dressing our cast in different types of clothes to represent different sub cultures of adolescence. For example, some will be dressed in indie type clothing, some in mainstream etc.

What type of video will you create: Narrative/symbolic hybrid.

What channels would our video appear on: MTV, 4Music, MTV Rocks.

Gears

Gender

Our music video will not be specifically aimed at either males or females, however as the main characters are females we may find that a young female audience would watch our video. The theme however is about youth, this is something that all genders can relate to and so it is not exclusive to either gender.

Ethnicity

We have chosen to not specify our music vide to a specific ethnicity as our theme of youth and inclusion of different groups of people would be appropriate and hopefully relatable across al ethnicities. We hope to show this with the actors used within the video.

Age

The target audience consists of people aged between 17-25, the reason being is that drugs and alcohol use is suggested throughout the video and so would not be appropriate for a younger audience. These will also be the ages of the actors involved.

Nationality

Our video will mostly conform to western societal attitudes and so that is predominantly our target audience. However youth is a theme that people can connect to throughout the world and so other nationalities may be able to relate to the video in some ways.

Socio-economic class

Our music video would most likely be appropriate for those within the social grade of C1-E. This is because our target audience of 17-25 year olds will most likely still be in education or in part time jobs.

Young and rubican classification

Aspirers

Seek status, materialistic, acquisitive, orientated to image and appearance, persona and fashion. Attractive packaging more important than contents. Typically younger people, clerical and sales jobs.

Our target audience will be around the ages of 17-25 and so we can assume they would fit in the aspirers characteristic of having clerical or sales jobs. Our video is very much about the different outfits worn and the use of lights to portray a party atmosphere. Therefore the Aspirers view on appearance and image will make them a perfect audience for our video.

Explorers

Seek discovery, energy, individualism, experience. Values difference and adventure. Brand choice involves impact and sensation. Buys alcohol, junk food, lottery tickets. D and E demographics.

Our audience, as said previously fit into the demographics of class D and E, they can also be described as explorers as, if watching our video, they must have some prior experience with alcohol and parties.
