How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

My media products allow my target audience of girls aged 16-24 to become aware of the new film that had been created by UADA films. After creating the readership profile, I was then able to understand the specific aspects that attract 16-24 year old girls. The different types of products allows the audience to see the promotion from all different angles, across a range of platforms, online, on billboards, magazines and on TV. Throughout the different range of product types, i am allowing my target audience to get an idea about the film in order to entice them to watch it. Having a trailer, magazine cover and a film poster allows audience members to become familiar with the actors featuring in the film and the key concepts that consist in the film.

Having the same actor on the front cover of the magazine and the movie poster means that people can be aware of this actor and get to know a little bit about her. This should further make audiences want to go and see the film as they start to familiarise themselves with some of the actors. Each of the products work along side each other with each portraying a specific aspect of the film. This coincides with the idea of having the same actor on both the magazine cover and the film poster. This therefore allows all there products to work together as an effective combination of different media products that are each aiming to heighten the awareness of this new film.

The cover lines used on the magazine cover allow the audience to see that this actor is playing the antagonist character in the film because of the use of the word “Thrilling” and the suspicious grin that the actor in the main image has. This therefore links to the low-key lighting used in the image of the same actor on the poster, linking the mise-en-scene of the bad, mysterious character portrayed by the actor.

I personally believe that i could have improved the connection between the film poster and the magazine cover. There is one main reason why I believe this because of the house colours I have used do not completely match within the two products. Having mainly red on the poster and a blue based colour scheme on my magazine are not colours that you could easily see a comparison between. However, I feel I aimed to I'm improve this problem by ensuring that the image on both products were photos of the same characters so that the audience can be aware of the actors in the film. The red font used on my poster is the same as the house style used in the trailer. This therefore means that my main product does link, to an extent, to the styles used in the ancillary texts. Consequently, this means that the trailer is something that can be clearly identified by my target audience after seeing the movie poster.
