DESCRIPTION

Use these photos to help teach the second conditional/unreal conditional, and hypothetical situations to your ESL/EFL students! Suggested Instructions: Students look at the photo and write a question using the second conditional. In partners, they answer each other's questions. Example: What would you do if you were in jail? 1) If I were in jail, I would read a lot of books. 2) I would read a lot of books. Option number 1 is to practice the full formula of second conditionals: if + simple past tense verb + , + would + base form Option number 2 is to practice the natural native speaking form of how to use conditionals. After you introduce a conditional topic, it isn't necessary to repeat the if clause in every sentence. Would+base form shows that you are talking about a hypothetical situation that has already been introduced.
