KNOWMATICS: A SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE Without science and technology, no modern

industry can be set up. Chemistry is the science behind chemical technology which in turn is the basis of the chemical industry.

Knowmatics is the science that forms the basis of Knowledge Technology that facilitates the system and technology for building up Knowledge Industry.

Knowmatics, the mathematics and engineering of Knowledge, deals with the nature, structure, consumption, production and marketing of knowledge besides the representation and communication of knowledge.

THEORETICAL FOUNDATION OF KNOWMATICS

Mathew’s Theories of Knowledge Consumption and Production, propounded in 1984 and got published from Moscow by the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1984 in the book ‘Theoretical Problems of Informatics’, edited by Prof. A. I. Mikhalove, the father of Informatics, are the basis of Knowmatics.

These theories provide the methodological tools to treat ‘Knowledge’ as a Commodity for Consumption, Production and Marketing and also for measuring ‘Knowledge’ in quantitative and qualitative terms.

TWENTY YEARS OF RESEARCH It took several years for the academic and scientific

community to understand the implications of Mathew’s Theories of Knowledge in Information Technology, Knowledge Engineering, Cognitive Science, Psycholinguistics and Education.

Dr. Mathew, on the basis of his twenty years of research on the Theoretical Foundations of Information Technology and the Nature and Structure of Knowledge found that Information Technology is incompatible to deal with Knowledge.

He found that the structure and nature of Data and Knowledge are quite different. While data structure is linear and static, knowledge structure is non-linear and dynamic. While data is one-dimensional, knowledge is multi-dimensional. More over IT is built upon Data Structure. Hence, Dr. Mathew in 2005 proposed Knowmatics, based on the nature and structure of Knowledge.

APPLICATION OF KNOWMATICS As was in the case of Mathew’s Theories of

knowledge, both the academic community and IT fraternity could not realize the implications of Knowmatics. Mathew found that Knowmatics is capable of brining out a Revolution in Higher Education and Structural change in the way in which universities are organized and functioning.

In his paper, jointly with Ranjit Mathew, ‘Knowmatics – A New Revolution in Higher education’ presented for the Fourth World Universities Forum and published in the Journal of the World Universities Forum 4,1,2011:1-11, Mathew elaborated the theoretical foundations and educational applications of Knowmatics. The paper has been included as a finalist for the international award for excellence.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHT ISSUES On the basis of the works carried out by Mathew,

stretching about thirty years, one American Company applied for Patent on Knowmatics in the USA. However, for the absence of more scientific and technical details, it could not proceed further.

This has made Mathew to develop the System, Technology and Business Model for his ‘Knowmatics-based Knowledge Industry’ with the critical tools to transform brain power and knowledge bases of individuals into value added and customized Knowledge Modules, Packages and solutions for the entire education, practicing professions, scientific research and business, industrial and farming sectors.

PRINCE HOLDINGS’ KNOWLEDGE INDSUTRY PROJECT

The Prince Holdings, Dubai has come forward to take up Dr. Mathew’s Knowmatics based Knowledge Industries, protecting his Intellectual Property Rights and developing Kerala as a Knowledge Industry Hub, under the umbrella of its 20,000 million Indian Rupees Business Plan.

Every household in Kerala can be made a Knowledge Processing Unit under the system, technology and business model developed by Dr. Mathew., that ensure at least 50,000 Indian Rupees in a month for every participating household.

FROM SEARCHING TO CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

In the academic, scientific and professional world, everybody is seeking knowledge in books or libraries and searching information in the net with very little time or energy to ‘consume and produce or apply knowledge’.

Dr. Mathew’s Knowledge Industry is intended augment knowledge consumption and production into several folds, freeing men, women and children free from the burden of seeking knowledge and searching information. It also facilitates accessibility of knowledge to millions into several folds so as to empower everybody with Knowledge, crossing even the barrios of formal education or culture or language.

THE TWO YOUTUBE VIDEO PRESENTATIONS The two YouTube video presentations on

‘Knowmatics and Knowledge Industry’ and the other presentations of Dr. Mathew are intended to give some basic knowledge of Knowmatics and its industrial or commercial applications. Since it involves several IPR issues, details cannot be given at this juncture.

It may take some more time for de-addicting the world from data or information and reinventing ‘Knowledge’ and also for the realization that Information Technology is not the ‘Ultimate Technology’ and IT does not have solutions for all matters on Knowledge and Brain Power.
