WHY?

• The most common reason of why this happens is because the shooter has been BULLIED in school.

• Wanting to form part of a group, but not being accepted by these people.

• Family problems are also part of this reaction.

• Be passionate about guns.

WHEN?

FROM 1997 TO THE PRESENT• Shooting incidents, particularly deadly

ones, carried out on school grounds both in the United States and around the world.

• School violence is a continually occurring problem in various degrees, but shootings are consistently reported on precisely because they are unusual and extreme events.

School shooting in Argentina

• A 15-year-old student drew a handgun and opened fire in a school classroom in southern Argentina on Tuesday, killing four classmates and wounding five. Police said the shooting came minutes before the start of classes in the Islas Malvinas public school in Carmen de Patagones, a city some 600 miles south of Buenos Aires.

Sexual Homicide at Beslan School

• On September 1, 2004, terrorists stormed a school in Beslan, Russia, and perpetrated one of the most heinous terror attacks in history.

• The terrorists immediately killed the men because they wanted no resistance for their plans.  Then, when they saw the helpless girls in front of them, the temptation became too much.  Their perverse dreams came true.

IT WAS NOT ONLY SHOOTING…

• People were sat over bombs, if they dared move the bombs would explode.

• They naked and tortured the kids in front of others.

• Lots of them died because of thirst and hunger.

• They were kidnapped for 72 hours.

• From 1200 people 846 survived.

Comparison between OUR country and THEIRS

SIMILARITIES• Almost all the cases

involved fire guns.• It was proved that the

reasons were ALWAYS the same.

• Always teenagers.

DIFFERENCES• In Argentina this rarely

happens, while in the rest of the world (mostly in the United States) is more common.

• In Argentina the victims are chosen beforehand, while in the rest of the world they are not.

OPTIONS TO PREVENT THIS• Design schools without nooks and crannies to

hide in. • Target at-risk students and monitor them by

talking with them frequently, forming small groups, and have teachers report any change in behavior.

• Well-trained staff and communication with students is probably the best deterrent.

• A student body that is trained to report a stranger in the parking lot or a student who is having problems.
