GLOBAL WARMING
By: Sam Bouton and Emily Sullivan
DEFINITIONS Greenhouse effect-Trapping and
build-up of heat in the Troposphere
Climate Change-Refers to any significant change in measures of climate lasting for an extended period
Global warming-average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere
RELATIONSHIPS Burning fossil fuels pour out greenhouse gases at a life-threatening rate, causing global warming
They are all affecting the Earth with harmful gases(over time)
CAUSES Some scientists say humans are one of the only causes of global warming, because of the greenhouse gases they emit
Others say greenhouse gases are the number one cause, but not emitted from humans
CONSEQUENCES Hotter world Dirtier air and water More severe floods and droughts
More wildfires Endangered or extinct species
ECONOMY Huge amounts of money are being spent on projects and funds to clean the environment
Spent a lot of money invested in renewable energy, every year the money spent increases
FIGHTING We can walk, bike, carpool, or any other way or transportation other than vehicles that emit pollution
Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
Save energy by turning off lights when you leave the room, not wasting water, and not leave things with engines running
ARGUMENTS Most scientists do not believe humans
effect the Earth’s climate Our most reliable source of
temperature data show no global warming trend
Global climate computer models are too crude to predict future climate changes
The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) doesn’t prove human activities are causing global warming
OPINIONS We believe that global warming doesn’t
exist because all the predictions of global warming are based off of computer models and there’s no historical data. Also, we don’t believe that human activities affect the Earth’s changing climate and in addition, our most reliable sources of temperature data don’t show any global warming trends.
