Definition of Genocide:The deliberate killing of a large group of people, esp. those of a particular ethnic
group or nation.

• Rwanda is a small country in South East Africa•The size of Switzerland (Small Country)• Population was an estimated 7 million before the genocide• Economy base on farming and agriculture
If there was a genocide in Rwanda and genocide is defined as the deliberate killing of a large group of people; who was being killed and who was doing the killing?
Tutsi• Estimated 15 percent of the population• Generally taller, slimmer, and lighter skinned• Favored by Belgian colonists• Aristocrats/ Ruling class
Hutu• Estimated 83 percent of the population •working class• shorter, stockier, and darker skinned• farmers
As we will read, during a period of 100 days, from April 1994 to July 1994, more that 800,000 Tutsi and sympathetic Hutu men, women, and children would be killed.
