Why video Training works:

1. Visually based - The majority of our brain real estate is devoted to processing visual information.

a) Called the Picture Superiority Effect, we remember 65% of what we have learnt three days later, provided it is both a picture and a word shown together, and up to 90% with video and verbal presentation

b) This is compared to 10% for just a word alone (text).

2. Use Audio and visuals together- RTV Crews presents information both audibly and visually reinforces information in multiple brain areas, this dual-encoding process increases the chance that material will be stored in long-term memory.

6 Reasons Cont:3. More engaging – We can provide a short exam at the end of

each SOP. IF trainees are told that they will be tested afterwards, you will get high levels of understanding and recall.

4. Show demonstrations – Our RTV training videos show how a particular process occurs. Rather than the trainee having to read or hear about it, they get to see what happens. This is really important for procedures that are difficult to show in a training room environment.

5. Are quick – Our RTV multimedia training videos will explain information in about half the time as words alone. Using visuals helps people instantly understand information and results in less confusion.

Number 66. Provides consistent training - Keeping strict version control on your

PowerPoint training presentations and ensuring that your trainers are all teaching the same thing is a legislative requirement. – If a death were to occur at your company site, the coronial inquest

would request that the training materials used on the day the person was inducted and trained be submitted for review.

– If there is evidence that the PowerPoint version was open and anyone could change it or that the trainer did their own version of training, then that company would be found to be non-compliant training wise.

– Ensuring consistent company training is not only better for employees, it's also good for business health.

Training is all about safety and efficiency

Using RTV to Create a Safety Culture

Three (3) important areas of a Safety Culture:• Safety training;• Safety procedures and updates to SOPs; and• Competence - ensure all employees are

competent; operators, safety skills, trainers etc.

Page 6: RTV Crews

Safety Training - Best Practice

• Best practice methods for safety training are:• Specific to site; video footage of actual activities with

annotations, comments and featuring current employees.• Example: Reading a book on 3 Point Contact vs. watching a

video with diagrams and comments on 3 Point Contact?• Communicate the Same Safety Message to all Employees.

Safety procedures and updates to “SOP’s”

• Regular SOP’s take a long time to read and perceptions of procedure often vary.

• Literacy and comprehension can impair effectiveness.

• Our diverse cultures often result in a language barrier to effective learning via text.

Page 8: RTV Crews

Traditional Training Video vs. RTV CrewTraditional Training Video• Video editing takes many hours each time it has to be updated.• It is too cumbersome to go through hours of video finding the right

section that shows the key steps.• Cannot be compared to footage of trainee for live feedback on training

effectiveness.• Not specific to site, or site has changed since video was captured (another

place).• Usually somebody else is in the footage, “it doesn’t apply to me” (another

person).• Not used to help whilst learning the skill (another time).

Traditional Training Video vs. RTV Crew

RTV Crews• Eliminates language barriers.• Quick and easy to update SOPs. • Your team becomes involved by being part of the creation of

the SOP. This gives impact to the delivery – It's us.• RTV Crews brings together all the best elements of delivering

an SOP. Regular updates, with your people on your site.

Proficiency Training• Analysis and training/feedback for truck operators

– Reaction times– Spot times– Queuing distance– Off side loading analysis and training

• Analysis and training/feedback for digger operators– Swing times– Load times– Number of swings– Clean-up times– Overall digger operations

Proficiency Training

• Analysis of vehicle congestion at dump sites– Dozer work– Dumping hold ups– Approximate percentage of load over bun wall
