Mommy and Daddy are sitting at the kitchen table and reading the newspaper. "Good morning, Rosa. I bet you and Emil are looking forward to all the things we‛re going to do today," says Daddy.

"We‛ll just read the newspaper a bit before we leave, so that we know what‛s been going on." Daddy reads out a report from the newspaper to Rosa. The phone rings. "We‛ll be over straight away," says Daddy. "Right, we have to rush off now. A mare has just A mare has just given birth to twin foals down at the horse farm."

Rosa and Daddy are sitting in the car. Emil‛s head is sticking out of Rosa‛s bag. Rosa doesn‛t go anywhere without Emil.
6
"Twin foals are very unusual. A mare usually only has one foal, very rarely two," says Daddy. "That‛s why we‛ve got to get the story into tomorrow‛s newspaper."
Rosa has to run to keep up with her Daddy. Daddy has a camera around his neck and a notebook and a pen in his shirt pocket.

Two little foals are lying on the ground in the stable. They keep trying to stand up, but their legs wobble like jelly. They look real funny.
Daddy takes photos of the two young horses. After that, he does an interview with Mr. Wilks, the man from the horse farm.
9
Daddy asks him lots of questions and writes every-thing Mr. Wilks says down real fast in his notebook. "Are they boy horses or girls?" asks Rosa. "Two fine colts, playful young lads, my dear," he laughs friendly.
"I‛d call the smaller of them Emil. That‛s the name of my elephant," says Rosa, pointing to her elephant. "That‛s a good idea. Why not? Let‛s call him Emil!" says the man from the horse farm. Rosa is delighted.

"Next stop is a playground, Rosa. They have a huge slide there, the longest slide for miles around," Daddy says.
12
"Can I go on the slide with Emil?" Rosa asks all excited. "Of course you can," says Daddy. "And I‛ll take a photo of the two of you. Then you‛ll be in the newspaper tomorrow, too," says Daddy. "Great," says Rosa.
There‛s lots of activity going onat the playground. There arelots of kids standing aroundwith their parents at thebig long slide and lookingup in awe. "Wow, it sure
is long," Rosa looksis long," Rosa looksup in amazement
too.

Daddy says hello to a woman and shakes her hand."We‛ve been waiting for you. Great, now we can open the slide," says the lady. The lady has a big fashion shop and she donated the slide. "That means she bought the slide and gave it as a present to the playground," to the playground," says Daddy.
"Hey, come on Rosa! You can go on the slide now," Daddy calls over to Rosa. Everyone looks at her as she slowly climbs the steps. Her knees start to shake. So she clings on to Emil, going up step by step. When she gets to the top of the slide, she sits down holding Emil on her lap. The children all look tiny from where she is. "My, but it is high up here," she from where she is. "My, but it is high up here," she whispers into Emil‛s ear and waits there in silence a while. "Come on, Emil! Let‛s show the other kids how to do it," says Rosa.

The next place Daddy goes
is a big building site.
They are building a new railway tunnel for trains to go through. The foreman‛s name is Fred. Fred gives Daddy and Rosa a helmet. That‛s for safety, to protect their heads. Fred, Daddy and Rosa walk all over the huge building site wearing the helmets on their heads. Daddy asks the foreman heaps of questions. There are big diggers and cranes all over the place. They stop in front of a great big hole made by a digger. Daddy takes a photo. "Boy, that sure is a deep hole," says Rosa to herself. She leans over the hole. Suddenly, Emil slips out of her bag and falls straight down into the great big hole. Rosa screams, "Emil!" Daddy grabs Rosa by big hole. Rosa screams, "Emil!" Daddy grabs Rosa by the arm to make sure she doesn‛t jump in after Emil. Rosa starts to cry. Fred the Foreman tells her it will be alright and thinks hard about what to do.
After a few minutes,Fred has a good idea.
"We‛ll be able to get Emil outof the hole with our digger."
The driver of the digger gentlyscoops the little elephant outof the hole and plants himof the hole and plants him
right beside Rosa.Rosa is happy again.

"Now we have to drive back to the news office," says Daddy. Daddy still has a lot of things to do. He has to type everything that Rosa and Daddy saw today into the computer. That will go into tomorrow‛s newspaper.
All the reports have to be ready before theycan start printing the newspaper.

There are lots of men and women in the office writing up their reports. Daddy sits down at his desk, Rosa beside him. "Let‛s look at the photos first," says Daddy.
Rosa is allowed to pick the nicest photo.Daddy starts to type into the computer real fast.
When he is finished, he reads his report outloud to Rosa. Rosa is delighted.

go home, Daddy shows Rosathe print shop, where
