Why were people asking for revolution?Colonists wanted to control

themselves and they were prepared to fight for their

freedom. Ordinary people began to have an impact on Europe´s

History

The idea of AbsolutismThis meant that

the king of the country had

absolute power and he was

appointed to god. Also, the monarch

made all the decisions and

controlled taxes, laws and religion.

Some countries with this idea:

France, Russia, The Holy Roman Empire, Spain and Prussia.

DISADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES

It was easy to pass bad laws.

There was very little oppotion due to the people who opposed

were killed.

A small group could become rich if they got

closer to the ruler.

Laws were passed easily and were not held up

with elections or discussions in parliaments.

This led to corruption and there was no

freedom to protest.

The idea of LibertyThis idea meant

that people from a state should have

a say in how it was run.

It also meant freedom to choose their own religion

and beliefs.

Some countries with the idea of Liberty:

Britain and the United Provinces.

DISADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES

It took long time to pass laws and to make

decisions.

Parliament gave the opportunitie to discuss

issues like religion or new laws freely.

Liberty and the right to vote was limited

towealthy land ownersor mechants (rich people)

This idea is our base of democracy

Religions liberty was limited to Protestants

American RevolutionIt started with the seven years war in which the native americans were defeated by the

British armies. Then, the American colonists became stronger and they owned lands so they were allowed to vote. They had more

political power than the British citizen. A man called Grenville

proposed a deal with the french and the native

americans, that the colonists would not try to establish any new colonies. However, this

plan didn’t work.

American viewpoint

They had spent a lot of money in the Seven Years

war, so the Americans should pay a Stamp Tax that Grenvilled brought as they paid very little

tax.

They had fought in the Seven Years war, and they put their lives on it, not only their

taxes.

Origins of the American Revolution

The native Americans didn’t know why the British Parliament made

them pay taxes if they didn’t have a MP who represented them.

Cosequences of the American RevolutionIn 1774 they met at the First Continental

Congress were theydemanded that any new tax would have to be discuss by their assemblies.

But, the British Parliament REFUSED.In July, 1776 they met at the Second

Continental Congress were they published their DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

Impact of the American Revolution in the United

StatesShort term: the american colonists were divided

during the revolution in LOYALISTS and PATRIOTS.

Longer term: there was a terrible civil war from 1861 to

1865.

Impact of the American RevolutionTHE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

Short term: People ruled by a monarch, overthrown him

because he was governing badly and because he was threating their liberty.

Longer term:Britain and the USA remained in good

terms and most of America’s trade continued to be with Britain.
