Three Easy Questions

Page 3: Revelation 19 chapter summary

Three Questions when you read the chapter you wish to study:

1. What does the chapter say?

2. What does that mean – specifically – to me?

3. What am I going to do about it?

Some add an optional memory verse as a part of the process to help them retain what God has said to them.

KV 11-14: The War is OVER!!!

1 - 6: The Four Hallelujahs

7 - 10: The Lamb and His Bride

11 - 18: The Return of the King

19 - 21: Time runs out for the Beast

Remember – at least four six(!) levels to understand!

1. To the believers at that time in that place (Historical context)

2. To all the churches (Ecclesiastic context):

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

3. To all believers (Homiletic context):

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

4. To world historical events (Prophetic context)

5. The Symbolism and interpretation thereof (Symbolic context)

6. Geopolitical context (won’t say much here)

Some principles of Bible study:

Take the text in context

Be sure of literal or symbolic interpretations

Don’t be afraid to ask the Author ;)

Cooper’s first rule of Interpretation:

If the plain sense of Scripture makes good sense, then seek no other sense!

The Fourfold Hallelujah:

1. God judges the false religious system2. God permanently deals with that system3. The 24 elders and 4 living creatures

acknowledge the righteousness of God in these judgements

4. All join in the praise, singing out –“Hallelujah! For the Lord God Almighty Reigns!”

Page 10: Revelation 19 chapter summary

The Lamb and His Bride:

1. Made herself ready – clothed herself in fine linen, bright and clean!2. That fine linen is the “righteous acts of the saints.”3. Those who are invited are blessed!4. This was said to John by a fellow servant and brother that also hold

the testimony of Jesus, not an angelic being.

There is some added information here that can be derived from the text:1. The fellow servant and brother was already in heaven. Some use this

(I think somewhat incorrectly) as proof that the Church is already in heaven. You all know I believe this to be the case, but this is not proof, strictly speaking – it is evidence out of context at best.

2. The testimony “to” Jesus is the spirit of Prophecy. This means that all prophetic passages in scripture are speaking in some way about Jesus, and bearing Him witness.

The Return of the King:

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. (11-13)

Did you notice the only one described with a weapon here is the King? I think this army is the Church – but we ae not coming to destroy –we are coming to heal and restore! What an honour!

Time runs out for the Beast and the False Prophet…

Remember that gathering to the valley of Meggido? This is where the final battle will be between Satan and his armies against God, specifically, Jesus and His witnesses. And even better, the outcome is already written…

And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. (20)

Interestingly, I have to say “Game not over.” But we’ll see what that means in the NEXT chapter, so I’ll leave that until then.

Page 13: Revelation 19 chapter summary

1. There is a coming kingdom where only righteousness dwells.

2. It isn’t here yet, so we still have time to get ready!

3. Those that get ready are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb! In fact, they are part of the Bride!

4. The fine linens worn by the bride are the “righteous acts of the saints.”

5. After this marriage supper, the King of kings is coming back with His army of restoration experts.

6. Time will run out for the antagonists right here.

This is NOT talking about the salvation of the spirit here – this is talking about the rewards of those who have remained faithful to their heavenly Fiancé.

We have just been through several weeks of describing the most horrid trials for humankind and the consequences of this time on earth for believers. Jesus never said our lives would be easy – but He did tell us that our faithfulness would be worth it.

And this is our CHOICE!

Page 15: Revelation 19 chapter summary

All choices have consequences. When you make your choice, you choose the consequences.

So choose:

“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15 NASB)

Page 16: Revelation 19 chapter summary

1. God and His plan will not be mocked. If people do not choose Him and His way, they are choosing an “alternate ending” that will not work out well for them.

2. God’s people have a choice – to come out from among them –then and there, as well as here and now. It is the very same choice – because those who choose against God and His plan will be participants in her sins and in her judgements.

3. God’s judgements are swift and terrible. No one can stand in His presence without His mercy and grace. Choose to follow Him.

Page 17: Revelation 19 chapter summary

Believers in Jesus have a UNIQUE, God-given right and ability to follow Jesus and choose for Him. We, as His disciples NEED to choose for Him. But how?

Acts 2:42 – “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

We must cultivate this attitude with these activities daily. Habitual participation of these habits now will strengthen us then.
