Polar Patterns

Omni means all and everyone!

Polar patterns have 3 main parts to it:

1. Omni directional, which means it picks up sound from every angle- use of rain falling- it is all to do with the background sound

2. Figure of 8-Front and back use in dialogues, this is used in radio interviews, people singing at the same time.

3. Cardioid- this is picking up sound only from the front. It rejects any sound from the back of the microphone. It is for a single used, so only one person can talk.

Two types of cardio:

q Super cardio is when it picks up more detailed sound

q Hyper cardio is when it picks up sound from the front only.

This is a polar pattern, it shows what part of the sound it covers; which in this case is the front of the microphone.

Design limitations

1. Base tip up

2. When they are covering the microphone, the sound isn’t clear.

3. How fare and how close the microphone is to your mouth (should be 2 inch's away)

4. When covering the microphone it makes a muffled sound

5. A proximately effect, have the microphone further down you, but you will need the volume up, which is not going to give a good clean signal.
