Key Personal Events

1.Parents took great care of his education besides being only middle class, which set him up for success from the start

2. Studied with local master Jacob van Swanenburgh, then in Amsterdam with Pieter Lastman

3.Marries Saskia van Ulyenburgh, the cousin of a successful art dealer, which enhanced his career as many wealthy people were asking for portraits, and they were willing to pay well

Key Historical Events

1. Dutch conquers world trade from 1585-1740

2. Spain signs treaty which cancels there production of arms, giving Dutch peace and artistic rule

3. Dutch and other smaller provinces form the Union of Utrecht

4. All of these events gave Dutch international art and commercial rule, allowing Rembrandt and others to get foreign supplies and influences from other parts of Europe and Asia
