Recycling Plastic

How is plastic
made?
It’s made from oil.
Oil is refined into its many constituent parts: methane, ethane,
propane, butane, hexane, heptane, octane, etc.
Then combined with other chemicals to form a polymer, which is just a
long chain of ethylene and propylene molecules
The polymer is compressed into plastic pellets.
The pellets are sold to manufacturers that heat the pellets and shape
the plastic into different shapes using different methods, mainly using
molds.

-Facts-Asia has been world’s largest plastics consumer for several years,
accounting for about 30% of the global consumption excluding Japan,
which has share of about 6.5%. Next to Asia is North America with 26%
share, then Western Europe with 23% share in the global market.

How is plastic recycled? Step 1: Plastics Collection
This is done through roadside collections, special
recycling bins and directly from industries that use a
lot of plastic. Step 2: Manual Sorting
At this stage nails and stones are removed, and the
plastic is sorted into three types: PET, HDPE and 'other'.
Step 3: ChippingThe sorted plastic is cut into small pieces ready to be
melted down.
Step 4: Washing
This stage removes contaminants such as paper labels, dirt and
remnants of the product
originally contained in the plastic. Step 5 - Pelleting
The plastic is then melted down and extruded into
small pellets ready for reuse.

What will happen if we do not recycle plastic?
Hazardous health to
animals, sometimes
deathLandfills
will
accumulate
triple as
much
plastic Our use of
natural
resources will
lessen due to
more needed
for making new
plastic
Most ends up as litterFrom: http://greenliving.lovetoknow.com/What_Will_Happen_if_You_Do_Not_Recycle_Plastic
Fun Fact Enough plastic is produced in the United
States each year to shrink wrap Texas.
Random Fact Enough plastic bottles are thrown away in the United States each year to circle the Earth four times.
Seem Happy & Unharmed?
Love Animals?
They are happy, until
unrecycled plastic causes
critical health problems, &
you’re causing it!
Have I persuaded you yet to recycle?
Well, the elementary kids have realized the importance without persuasion. Why can’t you be
persuaded?

Recycling plastic is very important! Think about the animals you could
save just by not trashing plastic & recycling it!
Recycle, Reuse, ‘WE’
save!
