The next best strategy is to throw all litter into a garbage bin. Litter on the ground can eventually contaminate our groundwater supply.

The City of Gary recycles cardboard, but the colorful laminate around candy packaging can contaminate our groundwater if left on the soil.

Styrofoam should be discarded properly because if Styrofoam escapes into our atmosphere, then it helps destroy our ozone layer.
