Question 1- In what way does your magazine develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

What are the forms and conventions of a music magazine?

- Masthead- selling line- date line - cover lines- sub heading - headline - cover image

All of these conventions have been followed in my cover because I felt like without these aspects it would not look professional and would look too bare.

My masthead uses the biggest font size on the entire page as this is the main feature and it needs to and out and catch the audiences eye. It needed to be a short, snappy word that was memorable and to the point. I downloaded a font off of the internet as I thought it looked almost rough and careless, which is what I think is represented by the word “youth” itself. The text was originally white however I used a colour overlay to givethe magazine a theme and make I more interesting and less flat and boring.

Font looks worn away and unfinished

This is the image I used for the cover photo of my magazine. I have used photo shop to edit the image by changing the contrast and the brightness to make it look more professionally taken.

The magazine displayed to the right was one of the pieces that inspired the overall feel of my media project. As you can see I have used the idea of the rounded sunglasses, however my model is making eye contact with the camera to connect with the audience. I also tried to add some colour to the page using the blue face makeup. My model is in the center of the page and covers the vast majority of the background.

The masthead covers the models hair at the top however it it still visible underneath which again, adds layers to the cover of my magazine.

I included a selling line with a short sentence describing a key feature story summed up quickly to draw the reader in and give a taste of what type of magazine it is and the kind of articles it will include. I used black text over the blue background to fit the colour scheme ad so that it would contrast with the yellow background. My title used a different font than

my masthead to show a clear difference between the two as they are both central and bold so I wanted there to be a distinct difference between the two. I added a black stroke to make it stand out from the image beneath it and make sure it was easy to read.

My cover lines showcase what’s included in the magazine. I have used contrasting colours and layered them on top of each other so that they stand out and I feel like the block background gives it a kind of edgy feel. I have used a typewriter for because I want it to look authentic and to fit the overall “thrown together” fee of the magazine. The word “exclusive” is written in bold so that it stand out from the rest of the words and signposts that there is information in my magazine that can’t be found anywhere else. They are located on the bottom left hand side of the page so that they are not covering any of the background image but can still be easily seen and read.

The contents page is sectioned into many parts to emphasize the fact that there is a lot of content to read, and so that is it easy to use.

I have used graphics to put a black block behind all of the subtitles and used a very bold, block capital font o make sure they stand out and jump out on the page.

I included a photo roll showing a series of images of the feature artist to break up the page and add some graphics into it

I included the magazine logo To follow the forms and conventions of a music magazine contents page.

I used an image of josh to show that there is a free poster inside

• The left side of my double page interview article is divided into 3 columns with a photo in the middle of them because this gives the page a sense of order and is appealing to the eye of the reader. The image of the crowd placed in the middle helps to split the piece up and make it not look like a huge overwhelming block of text.

There is a full size image of my sister on the right hand page is used to draw the reader to the page and give them something to catch their eye and represent/showcase the character that is being interviewed. It could also be teared out and used as a poster.

This small grey box labels the artist being interviewed and gives a quote that represents nina's outlook on life and shows that some of her life story is revealed.

This signals exclusive content for readers who are maybe just flicking through quickly.
