A WARMER WORLD

As the world grows warmer, plants and animals sometimes have to move to find cooler habitats. In Arizona, the rare Mt. Graham red squirrel lives in mountain forests above 8,500 feet. Now climate change threatens its survival.

OUR CLIMATE TODAY

You don’t have to travel far to spot signs of GLOBAL –WARMING. Some parts of the world are warming faster than others, though warming in one place can affect another on the other side of the Globe.

For simple evidence of global warming, just check the rising thermometer.

Causes of global warming

The amount of carbon dioxide in earth atmosphere has risen by 31 percent over the last 250 years and each year it is rising faster

PTO

Ever since the industrial revolution when developed countries first began to rely on machines , people have been using an increasing amount of fossil fuels .Fossil fuels are natural deposits , such as coal , oil and natural gas that formed when dead plants became buried under ground millions of years ago.Burning them releases CO2 in the atmosphere

In the last 200 years we have also chopped down nearly half of the worlds forests in order to provide timber and clear land for farming .tropical rain forests have suffered the most.Chopping down and burning the trees releases a large amount of green house gases in the atmosphere

One of the first things scientists learned is that there are several greenhouse gases responsible for warming, and humans emit them in a variety of ways. Most come from the combustion of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity production. The gas responsible for the most warming is carbon dioxide, also called CO2. Other contributors include methane released from landfills and agriculture (especially from the digestive systems of grazing animals), nitrous oxide from fertilizers, gases used for refrigeration and industrial processes, and the loss of forests that would otherwise store CO2.

EFFECTS IN GLOBAL-WARMINGThe effects of global warming are the ecological and social changes caused (directly or indirectly) by human emissions of greenhouse gases. There is a scientific consensus that climate change is occurring, and that human activities are the primary driver.

TAKING ACTION While humankind has the ability to

destroy the planet, we can also help protect and sustain it. Global warming is too massive a problem for one person to solve, but you can create positive change by making environmentally-conscious personal choices and inspiring others to take collective action. This article outlines ways you can help prevent Earth from warming further.

Amazing factsTo put this in perspective, about 38% more CO2 has been released into the atmosphere, a value higher than has been measured for over 800,000 years. And yes, the amounts we release is still rising year after year

From 1900-2009, global average surface temperatures rose by approximately 0.7°C (1.3°F). It has also been noted that the rate of increase has risen in recent time.

The acidity of the earth's oceans is known to have increased by about 30%. This is a result of more CO2 emitted since the Industrial Revolution, being absorbed by the oceans. CO2 being absorbed by the upper layer of the oceans is increasing by about 2 billion tons per year.

FUTURE CLIMATEGreenhouse gas concentrations

in the atmosphere will continue to increase unless the billions of tons of our annual emissions decrease substantially. Increased concentrations are expected
