How to overcome: Stereotypes

17/08/2013

To overcome stereotypes, it is actually the simplest amongst the three. Don’t listen to the stereotypes that influence you in this manner. For example, if a piece of music is about how it is good to be racist, don’t believe or do what it is saying. Better still, don’t listen to it at all. This way, you will not have any chance of being influenced by the bad things in the piece of music.

Unfamiliarity

Probably the most common cause of prejudice or partiality, unfamiliarity means not to be familiar with something.

How to overcome: Unfamiliarity

Simple too. Get familiar with it. Research about it, ask those who know about it. Be it a religion, race or whatsoever, it needs respect. For example, if you do not know that a certain race has a certain culture, and you unknowingly insult them, it wouldn’t be very nice would it?

SelfishnessSelfishness. Caring only about your own at the expense of others. Selfishness is also another problem that you may face when trying to apply impartiality to life. Sometimes, you get angry at someone else and you are not happy, so you decide to criticize them and differentiate them by race, religion or even class.

How to overcome: SelfishnessDon’t be selfish. As simple as that. Ever heard the phrase “Humans are selfish creatures”? Humans were born selfish, it’s whether you can change or not. So simply, consider others when doing something. Put others before yourself. Show your care for others. Be selfless.
