2. Twitter? Twitter: An information network made up of 140-character messages from all overthe world, Tweeter: An account holder on Twitter who posts and reads Tweets. Also knownas Twitterers, Twitterer: An account holder on Twitter who posts and reads Tweets. Also knownas "Twitter user, Tweet (verb): Tweet, tweeting, tweeted. The act of posting a message, often calleda "Tweet", on Twitter, Tweet (noun): A message posted via Twitter containing 140 characters or fewer, We use Tweeter as one of the platform to disseminate information & knowledge.It also helps us reach a large network of netizens. Using the Connect tab youre able toview who has favorited or retweeted your Tweets, who has recentlyfollowed you, and all of your @replies and @mentions. Trends/Trending Topic: A subject algorithmically determined to beone of the most popular on Twitter at the moment. Tweet Button: A button you can use. Clicking this button allowsTwitter users to post a Tweet with a link to that site. 12. Contd.. Follow Count: The numbers that reflect howmany people you follow, and how many peoplefollow you. Found on your Twitter Profile. Follower: A follower is another Twitter user whohas followed you. The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet.It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorizemessages.Why use hashtags to categorize Tweets by a keyword: People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (nospaces) in their Tweet to categorize Tweets and help them show moreeasily in Twitter Search. Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweetsmarked with that keyword.. #Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet at the beginning, middle, orend. Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics. Example: In the Tweet below, @eddie included the hashtag #FF. Using hashtags correctly: If you Tweet with a hashtag on a public account,anyone who does a search for that hashtag may find your Tweet 19. What Are Hashtags ("#" Symbols)? How to Search on Twitter To search for Tweets containing a keyword or hashtag: Enter your search query into the search box at the top of the page. Toggle between viewing People and Tweets results by clicking themenu on the left side of your page. When viewing Tweets, choose to view Top or All results by clickingthe options at the top of your search results timeline. You can also choose to see results about a given topic from only theaccounts you follow by selecting People you follow. 22. How to Search on TwitterTo search for Tweets mentioning a user: Enter the users username, preceeded by the @ symbol, into the searchbox at the top of the page. Tweets results display Tweets mentioning the username; People resultsdisplay accounts matching that username. Toggle between the two on theleft side of the page. Tips: If you see a hashtag in someones Tweet, clicking it will perform asearch for Tweets containing that exact hashtag. Searching from your Connect tab defaults to people search results (it willshow you accounts). Searching from your Discover tab defaults to Tweet results for yourquery. You can switch between the two at any time by clicking the menuon the left side of the page. 23. How to Save SearchesHow to save a Twitter search: Type your search query into the search box at the top of the page (shownbelow) and hit return. Click on the gear icon and select Save search from the drop down menu(shown below). Note: You may have up to 25 saved searches per account. 24. How to - Revisit a saved search & Remove it Click anywhere in the search box at the top of the page. A list of your saved searches will appear below the search box (shownbelow). Click on the saved search to revisit results for that query. Click anywhere in the search box at the top of the page. Click on the saved search query in the drop down (shown above). When results appear, click the gear icon and select Remove savedsearch from the drop down. This search will no longer appear in yoursaved searches. 25. Follow: To follow someone on Twitter is to subscribe to their Tweets orupdates on the site. Mention: Mentioning another user in your Tweet by including the@ sign followed directly by their username is called a "mention".Also refers to Tweets in which your username was included. 45. The Twitter Glossary MT: Similar to RT, an abbreviation for "Modified Tweet." Placed before theretweeted text when users manually retweet a message withmodifications, for example shortening a Tweet.
