ISSUE (1)

• Normal issues – many people have give out their opinion &

suggestion regarding this issue.

• Allowed for students – Act Discipline School (1957/59)

• Ministry of Education (1992) – give priority to discuss heart to heart

with students who makes mistake – cane is still permitted during this

time.

• Ministry of Education (1994) – public canned stopped – should be

carried out in the presence of a principal of several teachers.

• Changes occur again – Ministry of Education (1996) – caning continued – including the girls

• Resolutions of the National Student Discipline Seminar – officials of education, representatives of Parent Teacher Associations, NGO, the media and representatives of the students

• Ministry of Education (1997) – set a great teacher, principal and discipline teacher authorised canning

• Old teacher told – 1st day of teaching – he caned

every students who are in class

• 1848 – high school in North Carolina – a list of

prohibited behaviour with punishment at all

• The regulations are:-

Boys who play with girls – four stripes

Fighting – four stripes

Keep nails long – four stripes

ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE

• In the tradition of Islam, the Prophet confirmed

the method of cane in educating children.

• "Teach your children to learn prayers when he or

she was seven years old. When he or she

reluctant to do it at the age of 10 years old, then

hit your children“ – Prophet Muhammad s.a.w

• Use cane after going through several process –

advice, warning and guidance

CONCLUSION

• Rattan – last way – discipline the students

• Purpose of punishment – to correct the unwanted behaviours

• Teacher – should use discretion – make use of approaches – such as counselling, behaviouraltherapy, advise and guidance
