The Library

• Research library open to everyone, main customers are the students, teachers and staff of Rovaniemi UAS

• Part of the Lapland University Consortium (LUC) Library, other members are Lapland University and Kemi-Tornio UAS

• Collections in 3 locations: Ounasvaara, Rantavitikka and Viirinkangas campus

• We offer reading areas, computers for information seeking, newspapers and journals to read, printed and electronic collections

Library Database Juolukka

• Information about the collections of all the LUC libraries

• In Juolukka the patrons can:

– Check the location and availability of books

– Check their loans

– Renew their loans

– Reserve books that are currently borrowed

If we don’t have the book in the library• Interlibrary loan services from Finland and abroad (for a

fee)

• If the National Repository Library has the book students and staff can borrow it from there free of charge

Electronic Resources

• Available via Nelli-portal www.nelliportaali.fi/ramk:

– dictionaries, encyclopedias

– e-journals (over 45 000)

– e-books (over 10 000)

– reference databases

• Mostly in English

• Available in the local network of campuses, many materials allow remote access via Nelli

– password required

Information literacy

• A key skill in information society• In Rovaniemi UAS information literacy is taught in 3 stages.

It is integrated into the curriculum.– 1st year: basics of information seeking, the library

database– 2nd year: international information sources– information seeking for thesis

• For exchange students: library orientation• The goal is that students are able to independently seek

information and use the library resources, and become information literate.

information seeking

• Teachers can request additional lessons for their classes
