Cristina Cifuentes,B. Applied Science (Computing) and PhD Alumni 1994Christina lead a STEM project in her research laboratory at Sun Microsystems called Parfait a static program analysis for bug and security vulnerability checking of system code.

This project was then successfully transferred to the internal production team at Oracle (who acquired Sun Microsystems).

Cristina is currently leading another project at Oracle Labs.

Boyd Willis,B. Applied Science (Applied Chemistry) Alumni 1980Metallurgic process development for nickel laterite ores.

Naomi Paxton,B. Applied Science (Physics) Alumni 2014For those who distinctly recognise the call of the wookie or sounds of a passing Millennium Falcon, Anakin and Lukes home planet, Tatooine, might be familiar territory. But for those whose younger years werent filled with plastic lightsaber duels down the corridor, this fictional planet was the first circumbinary exoplanet to be depicted on the big screen; the exotic nature of a planet orbiting a binary star system has captured the imaginations of many sci-fi writers alike. In many scenes throughout the Star Wars saga, the desert planet of Tatooine is characterised by its two suns, in particular, the remarkable sunsets witnessed by Luke. In this project, we discuss the habitable nature of Tatooine and whether, if a real life system, Tatooine would fall within the habitable zone of its host binary star system. Using N-body simulations, calculations suggest that Tatooine would lie largely on the inner edge of the habitable zone, making it potentially able to sustain life in desert-like conditions as depicted in the Star Wars movies.

Alistair Chapman,B. Information Technology (Honours) Alumni 2014 At the start of this year, I competed in QUT's team at CaseIT,an international MIS Case Competition over in Vancouver, Canada.

We came second in the competition overall against a wide variety of international teams.

Cristina Cifuentes,B. Applied Science (Computing) and PhD Alumni 1994Cristinas work on Binary Translation was summarised in a feature for the journal Computer in March 2000. This work was primarily undertaken whilst at the University of Queensland, but was further developed during sabbatical leave at Sun Microsystems Laboratories.

The summary paper for Cristinas PhD work was also published in the journal Software Practice and Experience in 1995. Supervised by Prof. John Gough, Cristina still receives praise and recognition for this work.

Adam Tow,B. Engineering (Mechatronics) Alumni 2014Adams final year project investigated how the Cube introduces new problems to tackle in deploying crowd counting software across QUT's Science and Engineering Centre.
