Evaluation Question 6What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Technology 1

Blogger

Neither of us had previously used blogger, however it was integral for our project as we used it to show our progress throughout. We felt we developed skills of Blogging, by this we mean learning how to chronologically showcase our work, as well as how to imbed clips, YouTube links, pictures. As well as learning how to edit and design our background. Blogger was really helpful to us with communication between us as a group, as it allowed us to upload work and the other viewing it easily online as opposed to sending it over email, or meeting in person. It was convenient for us. We would definitely use this for another project as it is an easier way to share work within the group as well as gives a chronological view of the project progress and allows for the inclusion of other media, e.g. pictures and imbedded clips to condense the work down into one easy guided piece of work.

Technology 2

Adobe Premier ProTo edit both our final project and preliminary film we used Adobe Premier Pro, which neither of us had previously used.We recognised that it is an industry standard piece of software and it used to edit large budget films such as Gone Girl. We used it to put our clips in the desired order, add credits, music and filters. We both had experience using iMovie and Final cut pro so we had a generic understanding of editing software. We further developed our skills in cropping clips, adding slow-motion effects, adding filters. Furthermore we used LiveType to help add credits and a title. We had some trouble using this software as when we exported our final film there was a significant difference in the size of the black box around our picture in different segments of the film. We tried to fix this problem however we were unable to find a solution to the problem. This was an essential piece of technology in our project as we used it to edit the final project. If we did another project would use this technology again as we have developed a solid understanding of how it works.

Technology 3

YouTube

We used YouTube in every stage of our project, we used it for researching our film openings to imbed clips into our Blogs. As well as to upload our audience testings, rough cuts and finally our final film. We created a YouTube channel each to upload our work onto. We both have had experience using YouTube in the past for both work purposes and at our leisure, we had no issues using YouTube as we were already familiar with the software. If we were to start another project we will definitely use YouTube.

Technology 4

LiveType

LiveType was a brand new piece of software for us to use, we had to learn how to use it from scratch. For our preliminary film we struggled to use LiveType as we wanted the text to be on the screen with the clips. We developed this skill and managed to do it in our final production. The software was perfect in aiding us to find the writing typography and animation we desired for our project. Now our skills and understanding of this software our developed we would use this programme again if we need to.

Technology 5

Apple iMac

We used Apples 21.5 inch iMac desktop for our work, as it had all the software we needed. LiveType, Adobe Premier Pro. We also used these to update our blogs, as well as our home computers (Toshiba Satellite and Macbook Air). We worked well with these computers as we had used them for previous projects in the past, the larger screen and higher resolution worked well in helping us edit better. These computers were very helpful in allowing us to complete our project and will be used again for further projects.

Technology 6

Panasonic HDC-Sd700.

We used a Pansonic HDC-SD700 camera to shoot our project. We have both used several cameras in the past however neither of us had used this particular one. However we both managed to use it with ease, we managed to develop our skills of camera work with this camera as we used the zoom feature. We did not find any challenges with this technology. The camera was easy to use and it was easy to upload the footage onto a laptop with ease. We would use this camera for other project.

Technology 7

Velbon CX 88 Tripod

We used a Velbon CX 88 Tripod to mount our camera onto to make sure our shots were steady, it also allowed us to use higher and lower angled shots. The handle also allowed us to use panning shots which were included in our final film. We developed our skills in camera work thanks to the tripod which we had never used before and will use in the future for other projects.

Technology 8

Velbon DL 11 Dolly

We used a Velbon Dl 11 Dolly to mount our tripod on. This allowed us to move the camera and tripod around to create several stoats panning and tracking shots. This technology was integral to the advanced transition we used (0:29) as it enabled us to smoothly move the camera so the transition worked as effectively as possible.
