Question 3 – What have you learned from your audience feedback? Questionnaire In order to gain feedback from my audience I used a questionnaire. The questionnaire contained close-ended and open-ended question. The questionnaires were then given to my focus group who originally filled out questionnaires to support my audience research during the planning processes of my music video and ancillary texts. The questionnaires contained questions on the demographics of the participant such as age and gender. I made sure that the participants of the questionnaire was made up of and even number of males and females, and were above the age of 25 years old. I had established this during my research of the band, suggesting that the bands main audiences and fans were over the age of 25. The ages also ranged from 26-56, allowing the results of the questionnaire to be more generalizable. Music Video feedback Feedback on the questionnaire was very important. I wanted to make sure that any themes or stories I was trying to convey. My feedback showed that the 100 per cent of the focus group understood that the females in the video were being represented in a non-feminine light. They also said how this challenged the stereotypes they’d seen in the past in the media. The audience all agreed that the images and editing fit well with the music and the genre. They said that the story it was showing was interesting and captivating, making them want to watch it again. The music video was not recognised as similar to any other music productions by other artists. This was disappointing as I had based many of the themes around Tom Waits, however Tom Waits wasn’t well knows to a lot o the target audience so this could’ve had an effect on the feedback. Despite this, the feedback suggested that they understood the reference to silent film and the 1920s era of cinematography.

Ancillary texts feedbackThe feedback that I got for both of my ancillary texts was generally positive.

The audience recognised the relationship between the magazine advert, digipak and music video. T was evident through the feedback that the synergy of colour palettes was effective in this.

The audience were able to recognise the music genre from the products.

My magazine advert features different social media logos. In the questionnaire, the audience said that this was useful as it allowed them to know what sites they could find the artist on, allowing them to explore the fan base and music more. However, they did suggest that considering the age of the audience that perhaps less social media icons be used as they may not use the sites regularly.
