A2 media evaluation

Page 2: Question 2 – how effective is the combination

Answer Both ancillaries are in the genre of indie/alternative because the music video is and we wanted all to match to create synergy. In our music video we explored themes and conventions of friendships, cleansing and rebellion, this was challenging to project onto an ancillary task as it is print not video, however using the stills from the music video, I believe we achieved a sense of cleansing in print as I used stills from the bath scenes from the video. To get this theme across we also used nature stills in our ancillaries as it has connotations of being pure. I found portraying the theme of friendship difficult compared to the music video in my ancillary 1 and 2 though. However the layout and design of my tour poster ancillary was designed with the Guttenberg design principle in mind with the artists name covering the primary optical area and the tour dates placed in the reading gravity area.

Answer –part 2 The main image is centered in the middle, the image of the countryside looking background in black and white. The mise en scene of the image is bleak and murky, however matches the lighting of the bath scenes, but contrasts with the scenes of the city shots in the music video. The synergy between the ancillaries is strong in terms of the mise en scene, both contain greyscale (black and white) the images I have chosen to use on both ancillaries do all relate to the same product (the product being the music video) as most of them are ‘stills’ from the video itself, or shots taken within the filming session. My finished product compares quite well to a real media products as I have looked through many examples. The main difficulties I experienced related to the main product to a real media product was making it seem realistic enough to compete with real media products in terms of editing.
