LESSONS LEARNT-

After the survey of the various canteens of our college campus, we found that 5S methodology is being practiced in 5 of the 7 canteens whereas 2 do not follow 5S.

The canteens which follow 5S are efficient, have better quality of food and are preferred by the students.

THE FIRST ‘S’-SORTThe canteens following the concept of sort have faster service and better quality of food. There are no obstacles in the way to hamper their work and no accumulation of useless objects.

THE SECOND ‘S’- STRAIGHTENThe second s- straighten reduces the time required for a task. It makes things easy to find if the are kept at their places. It also ensures the FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis.

THE THIRD ‘S’- SHINEThe third s- shine not only makes the place attractive, it also keeps the environment healthy. It also prevents the deterioration of the machinery and equipments.

THE FOURTH ‘S’-STANDERDIZEThe canteens have high standards

of housekeeping and technology to aid their work. This makes them efficient as compared to others.

THE FIFTH ‘S’-SUSTAINAll the four techniques are useless if not sustained. It must be a habit to follow the above methodologies then only they can sustain. This is the fifth ‘s’.
