5. How did you attract/ address your audience?

Attracting the audience

• I wanted to find out as much as possible about my target audience so I could create a magazine tailored to them with their preferences etc. encouraging them to buy it which would result in a successful media product.

• I constructed a questionnaire to help me discover exactly what the audience wanted from my magazine. I gave out 15 questionnaires which was a nice amount and easy to gather the information and analyse it.

• I was happy with the results I received as they proved very helpful in designing my own piece.

Attracting the audience

• As shown on my blog, I constructed tables on excel for each question result. This made it easier to analyse information.• Most of the target audience said they wanted a group to feature so that’s what I

went for. • By asking questions like “What would you like featured in the magazine” I was

able to get a good idea of cover lines, articles and artists that would attract my target audience.

Attracting the audience

• From my questionnaire I found out that my target audience wanted a group on the cover which I was pleased about. I created a girl band which will potentially attract more girls to read it than boys. I named them Belle Amie and they were 3 young girls new to the music industry. Again attracting the younger generation.

• By putting the girls in Black and white clothes, it fitted the theme and with a variety of poses, that pop look was depicted.

• In my contents page I had another artist which again was a girl solo singer. She was holding a guitar and the pose was inspired from the ED sheeran edition of Q magazine.

Attracting the audience

• As mentioned, my magazine is intended to appeal to all young music fans; a good knowledge of the music industry, a passion for pop music, gigs/festivals and a desire to find the latest news on current and upcoming artists connects them, and this is what I wanted to provide.

• My magazine reflects the assumption that the readers are well informed about the music industry and the pop genre allowing me to establish the piece as professional and serious about music. Also, with this in mind, I was able to make my magazine more relevant and appealing to the target audience through the utilisation of a conversational, friendly tone and informal register throughout my pages, adding to the impression of the writer and reader as music equals. I wanted my DPS article to include interesting information and an interview to make it more interesting to read. Questions that everyone wants to know would be asked and also there is a twitter takeover section which allowed more questions to be asked.
