Why GeoServer and Open Layers

Geoserver: Geoserver is an open source GIS Server used to publish data.

Open Layers: It’s a client API which is used to server the gis layer from Geoserver.

Geoserver can provide various WMS/WFS layer and Open Layers can render them.

Lets see how we publish it!!!!!!

Please Install the latest version of Geoserver from http://geoserver.org/download/.ll

Please install the same.

GeoServer needs to be started once its installed.

You will land in this page.

GeoServer once you log In

Create your own workspace

Create workspace

Create Store

Follow the same process as above and go to store page.

Since we are going to have shapefile click on shapefile link.

Shapefile details

Workspace:Select the workspace you created.

Data Source Name:Give the name you want to give

Shapefile Location:Share the location where your shapefile has been saved.

You will be redirected to a new page where list of shapefiles will be available.

Click on the shapefile you need to publish

Declared SRS: EPSG:4326

For bounding box click on Compute from data

Go to publishing tab and select style and save.

If published properly you will be redirected to a new page where all list of services will be present.

Layers Published

To view your layer

Go to layer preview tab.

Select on Open Layers tab and you can see the layer published.

Click on OpenLayers to visualize your data on map.
