• Teramo is the capital of the province of Teramo.• The city is situated between the highest mountains of the Apennines (Gran Sasso

d’Italia) and the Adriatic coast.• The town is by the confluence of the Vezzola and Tordino rivers.• The economy of the town is based on activities connected with agriculture and

commerce, as well as a sound industrial sector: textiles, foods, engineering, building materials and ceramics

It’s a Roman Catholic

cathedral in Teramo,

Abruzzo, central Italy,

dedicated to the Assumption

of the Virgin Mary and to

Saint Berardo, patron saint

of the city. It is the seat

of the Bishop of Teramo-

Atri. Built in Romanesque-

Gothic style, it was

consecrated in 1176.

the bell tower:

It was built at a different

time at the end of the

12° century. The building culminates in an octagonal

section decorated with glazed stones surmounted

by a pyramid

Paliotto:

It is a silver Antepedium and it was built by Nicola da Guardiagrele , on the first half of 1400. It is composed

by 35 panels, positioned in four orizontal row. It is enclosed on a silver frame. The main panels show scenes of Jesus Christ’s life and passion; onlythe last panel on the right side shows St. Francesco, maybe to represet an

example of a “Second Christ”

Along the coast there is the tower ofCerrano which was built in the mid-16° century. Its name is owed to

the near Cerrano Torrent, whose name probably derived from the goddess’

name Cerere.

The tower now is used as a marine and river research laboratory.

In Atri’s south part,

The landscape is

extremely

interesting. The

Badlands (Calanchi)

were created by the

erosion of clay

soils by meteoric

rainfall and appear

as large trhougs in

the hillside.

Corno Grande is the Gran Sasso’s highest peak. The mountain is made of limestone

wall full of slots, chimneys and channels.

Corno Grande is good for winter excursions and to ski, but during the summer is even better for the long walks hikers can have along the paths that rise, up the peak of

Gran Sasso.
