Summary of the topic:Today, the modern Chinese architecture has lost certain connectivity with the traditional Chinese architecture in terms of history, sense of time and memory, and materiality. The rapid development of Chinese cities has caused tremendous environmental impacts mainly due to the negligence towards the prominence of contextual and vernacular architecture.

To study on this subject, I have selected Ningbo Museum by Wang Shu, addressing the issue of green architecture in China, emphasising the importance of using sustainable materials to contribute in preventing further exacerbation of the built environment. What makes the materials sustainable is owing to the salvaged materials, which are entirely collected from the demolished villages in the city from different eras as a reflection towards the phenomenon of deconstruction and massive construction in the urbanisation process in China. In addition, promoting the integration of the vernacular construction method and traditional spatial planning strategies enriches the implementation of building sustainable and fusion between ecology and culture.

Thus, this paper will focus on the sustainability of the museum in an urban context, acting as a landmark as well as a community to intensify the connectivity between human and architecture in the region. A more in-depth analysis will capture the tangible and intangible essence of congruity between human and place by weaving the humanity, tradition and memory through architecture.
