Project-Based Learning
• A dynamic approach to teaching.• Students explore real-world problems and challenges.• Active and engaged learning.• Students are inspired to obtain deeper knowledge of their
subject areas• Emphasizes learning activities that are long-term,
interdisciplinary and student-centered.
Structure of Project-Based Learning
• Teacher facilitates.• Students organize their own work and manage their own
time in a project-based class.• Project-based instruction is different from traditional
inquiry.• Emphasis is on students’ collaboration and or individual
artifact construction to represent what was learned.
Elements of Project-Based Learning
• Real world problems which captures students interest.• Provokes serious thinking as students acquire and apply
new knowledge in a problem solving context.• Students frame worthwhile questions and structure
meaningful tasks.• Knowledge development and social skills• Assessment focuses on the process/experience and the
product/outcome/
Project vs Problem Based learning
• There is a blurring of lines between these two approaches.
• Most important difference is students come up with their own problem around which they will create a project.
• Students work in collaborative groups.• Cross-curricular.• End result is a “product” which can be presented, it is on-
going and provides tangible steps with results.
