Straight Profile

Convex Profile

Concave Profile

In this profile, the person will have neither the intentional character of the concave type or the demanding nature of the convex type. Their face is a moderation between the two profiles

Convex profile includes sloping forehead, slightly prominent brows and large slightly curved nose. Further, people of convex type have a receding chin shape.

Concave profile comes with a prominent forehead and almost flat eyebrows. The nose is bent or smaller and straight or slightly curved inward. There is usually flat and chin is well formed with an outward curve.

Convex profile is most common profile which is associated with Skeletal Retrusion, DentoAlveolarRetrusion & Class II Dental malocclusion further divided into

Class II Division 1

Class II Division 2

A malocclusion where the molar relationship shows

the buccal groove of the mandibular first molar

distally positioned when in occlusion with the

mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary first molar.

Division 1

Division 2

Treatment Objectives

Reduction of overjet

Reduction of overbite

Correction of crowding and local irregularties

Correction of unstable molar relationship

Correction of posterior crossbite if any

Normalize musculature

In case of skeletal irregularities

surgically maxillary setback (in case of maxillary prognathism)

surgically mandibular advancement(in case of mandibular retrognathism)

In patients beyond growth modification

In order to obtain space teeth are extracted from both the upper and lower arch i.e First premolars

Second premolars can also be extracted in minimum anchorage cases

Based on underlying skeletal pattern a maxillary setback or maxillary advancement is undertaken along with orthodontic bracket system

In case of class II Division 2

Overjet and overbite of incisor reduced

Intrusion of incisors may be done and then move palatally/lingually .
