And Strategies Refined for the Future

Probably Seems Obvious

• No easy fix dealing with a multi-faceted issue• Let’s have more conversations with staff and

students• Listening to students and their expectations• Guiding them through Transition and

Orientation• Trying to change the culture of the frontline• Let’s be innovate; don’t keep doing what we

have always done

25

Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

• Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently --they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Session 1 , 2015

• Following on from the Learner Engagement Pilot, 13 Session 1 units serving 75% of our first year students are being supported

• Expanding UniMentoring• With mentor 76% returned in 2014

• Without mentor 69% returned

27

Are We There Yet?

• No, but we have a clearer understanding of our position, the strategic direction for the future and an increasing range of tactical responses to address the issue of retention and student success.

• First Year satisfaction reached 76% having been at 70% for a number of years.

28

Trying to Build….

29

…a whole of institution response, geared to delivering results.

…a University where the Student Experience is the driver behind every decision we make.

Thank You
