1. Every machine has a unique numeric IP address2. Humans are bad at remembering numbers sowe associate names with IP addresses.

3. To get a message from one machine to another, you may have to pass through other machines

4. Your message may be broken apart as it travels.Don't worry, it gets reassembled at the end.
