PRESS RELEASE AN ITALIAN OCTOBER’S TASTE: THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE WEEK IN CYPRUS (19th-25th October 2015) AND A DIVE INTO THE ITALIAN CINEMA (15 th -30 th October 2015) The Italian Language Week in the Worldis an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the “Accademia della Crusca” (1), under the Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, that goes on from 2001. During this week, Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes organize various events to promote the Italian language as a language of classic and contemporary culture. Each year this special week has a different theme around which lectures, exhibitions, performances and concerts evolve. The theme of this edition, L’italiano della musica, la musica dell’Italiano (The Italian of Music, the music of Italian) is dedicated to the extraordinary quality of musicality of the Italian Language, as explained in the video at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhjxDuSGutw On this occasion, the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the Cyprus Committee of the “Società Dante Alighieri” and the Foundation T. Kanthos, has organized a concert “Sull’aria che soavethat will take place on Tuesday 20th October at 8.30 p.m. at the Centre of Arts T. Kanthos. After a brief introduction by Prof. Gaia Zaccagni on the Italian opera tradition, in which words are linked to music, the evening will be a tribute to Italian music, edited by the Cypriot Conductor Ayis Ioannidis, professor at the School of Music Art, and his best students. Famous arias for piano and voice by various compositors (Vivaldi, Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini) will be performed. (see the attached invitation). Moreover, for all those who love the Italian cinema and would like to be updated about recent productions, Italian movies will be screened at the University of Cyprus on Thursday 15 th October at 8.00 p.m. and at the University of Nicosia, in collaboration with the Friends of Cinema Society and Notoria International, from Monday 19th October to Friday 30th October 2015 (please see the attached program). The Embassy of Italy is also supporting the 5th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus that will take place in Limassol at Rialto Theatre from 17 th to 23th October with three Italian short films: Caro Domenicoby Kate Jessop, Due Piedi Sinistriby Isabella Salvetti and Pandemoniaby Valerio Spinelli. AN ITALIAN OCTOBER’S TASTE: THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE WEEK IN CYPRUS

The “Italian Language Week in the World” is an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the “Accademia della Crusca” (1), under the

Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, that goes on from 2001. During this week,

Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes organize various events to promote the Italian

language as a language of classic and contemporary culture.

Each year this special week has a different theme around which lectures, exhibitions, performances

and concerts evolve. The theme of this edition, L’italiano della musica, la musica dell’Italiano (The

On this occasion, the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the Cyprus Committee of the “Società

Gina and Marco are living in the suburbs of Rome. The two meet on a very special day: their first day at work. They have a future that awaits them and really seems at hand. Gina is about to realize her dream of becoming an actress, while Marco for the first time has found an opportunity that allows him to start dreaming: a job in a car rental company as a driver. They are enabled to know each other since his first duty is to drive Gina to an appointment, and given a delay, they have to share the whole day. This journey will take them from the periphery to the center of the city, will serve both to compare their experiences and think about a future that has already begun.
