THE FUNCTIONS

1. HABITUAL ACTIONS

When we do the same thing every time or every day, we call it a HABIT. When we speak of habits, we use the SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE.

Examples:

Vitto brushes his teeth twice a day.

Nadira eats bread in the morning.

Nafis goes to school by bicycle.

We attend computer class every week.

The students borrow books from the library every

day.

(A)Science and mathematics have many FACTS. When we speak of these FACTS, we use the SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE.

Example:

There are many planets in space.

No one lives on the moon.

The sun is very hot.

A triangle has three sides.

Millions of fish live in the sea.

(B) We know that different kinds of people and creatures do certain things. When we write or speak about those things, we use the SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE.

Example:

A baby drinks milk.

A doctor treats sick people.

Bees live in large groups.

A hen lays eggs.

A frog croaks.
