PowerSchool serves as the primary source and repository for student data in School District 5. Information maintained in PowerSchool extends beyond student demographic, attendance, and grade data to include health information, special needs identifiers, socioeconomic status, custody orders, guardian alerts, homeless and foster home indicators, etc. As a result, school registrars and administrators have access to very personal student information. In1974, the US Dept. of Education (USDE) enacted the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to protect the confidentiality of student data by limiting the disclosure of information from education records. This informal survey is designed to identify the current needs of registrars related to the understanding and application of FERPA to data maintained in PowerSchool. Your responses will remain anonymous and will help direct future information sharing. Thank you for participating in this survey. 1. In your opinion, maintaining the confidentiality of student data is high priority at your school. 2. How much training have you received related to student/parent rights provided under FERPA? 3. You currently receive guidance from one or more school administrators with expert knowledge of FERPA its requirements. 4.
