SMCC Nursing Program Philosophy and Conceptual Model

Nightingale pledge(original)I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.

"This lamp... was a symbol of all Florence Nightingale stood for, comfort and kindness and gentleness and courage, and an unswerving devotion to duty. Perhaps deep down, she knew even then that the light from it would go on shining far into the future..."--From "A Lamp for Elizabeth" by Kathleen O'Farrell

We are so proud of her!

The Graduates would like to take a few moments to express their gratitude and appreciation .

I would first and foremost like to thank my husband. His support, encouragement, and patience meant the world to me these past two years. I could not imagine having to go through nursing school without you. I would also like to thank my mama, because having someone to talk to who has been through nursing school was such a big help. She always knew just what to say to lift my spirits! To my in-laws, thanks for all of the support you have given and continue to give, it is much appreciated. Any friend or family that I did not name, thank you for your support and for the much needed distraction every once in a blue moon. Carla and Elizabeth, thank you for your guidance and wisdom these past two years, we are a really lucky class to have had the two of you as instructors for the duration of our nursing education. It certainly takes a village to raise a nursing student, my sincerest gratitude to everyone in my "village.-JessicaJessica Bonang

I cant even begin to express all of my gratitude to all the people that have helped me get here! Carla and Elizabeth, you are sooo much more than just instructors. Lynne-my mentor and inspiration.Bonnie - by far my biggest cheerleader. My parents, (especially Cindy-for being so passionate and great at what she does and introducing me to it.)My brother, for saving me time and time again..Dawn, my best friend in the world, whose list of thank yous is simply too long for this slide.Mom and Dad Foster (who always called me Nurse Misty) and my Mum who are watching down over me and pushing me along.Donnie, my very patient and supportive husband who I couldnt do any of this without..And most of all, my son, Nicholas who has sacrificed the most through all of this. And of course, the Brunswick Girls..I love you guys -M.

I want to thank my family for being so supportive of me these past couple of years. I havent been around as much as I would have liked, and I have missed many family gatherings and special occasions, but through all of this you all have stood by me and encouraged me to keep pushing through. You will never know how much your support and encouragement mean to me. I love you! Thank you to my friends and co-workers who have helped, supported, and encouraged me! I also want to thank my instructors, Carla and Elizabeth. I appreciate all you have taught me, and I feel lucky to have had you for all four semesters. I will miss both of you! Naomi, Thank you for pushing me onto the Behavioral Health unit, it wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be!
