Today, we will:

• Learn about: alliteration,

personification, rhyme, simile,

metaphor and power of three

• Write a poem together!

Personification

When a non-living thing is described as a living thing.

DEAD ALIVE

The run-down house Depressed

DEAD ALIVE

The moon Winked

The run-down house looked depressed.

The moon winked at me from behind the clouds.

Alliteration

When letter sounds at the beginning of words are repeated.

limy,

ike’s icrophone ade uch usic.

ric’s agle ats ggs.

annah’s ome as eat.

This is a s tinky lunch.s

Rhyme

When 2 or more words sound the same – usually at the end of a line but

can be within lines of poetry.

Simile

When something is described as being like something else.

He walks like a snail.

He looks like a mountain.

Metaphor When something is said to be something else.

He is a pig.

My house is a fridge.

Power of Three

When you use three adjectives to make writing more interesting.

I was , I was , I was !
