PLANNING IMAGES

FRONT COVER ACTOR/S : Amann Souza

DESCRIPTION OF THE IMAGE : Model looking directly into the camera cadre in order

to crate direct eye contact with the audience.

CONNOTATIONS / SIGNIFIERS: I am planning to experiment with the background of

the magazines by using two different coloured photographic backgrounds. This includes

black and white. This will allow me to see which colour is more effective. At the same

time I will make a clear link to my logo which is also focused around this colour scheme.

I will reinforce it by the model’s costume which is going to be dominated by red. This is

going to be the central focus point within the front cover. Another symbol which I am

planning to use are the Dr. Dre beats which are going to reinforce the subject of music

as well as the article subject.

SHOT/ ANGLE SHOT: I will create a medium close up which will allow me to bring

focus to the facial expression of the model as well as his clothing and style. I will

experiment with different shot angles in order to gather variety of different compositions.

I will then have a variety of photographs to pick from.

COSTUMES: Red leather jacket, black jeans, black, gold or silver chain for a detail.

PROPS: Dr. Dre will empathize the subject of music. At the same time the use of

headphones will allow me to empathize the fact that he is a new artist, as all musicians

start by listening to music to find their role models and muses. I want the model to

engage with the prop.

LOCATION: Studio set up in a classroom

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Camera, white photographic background, props, tripod.

CONTENTS PAGE For my contents page I am planning to mix images of people as well as photos of object in order to match different

types of features. For the feature ‘Simple Plan’s widescreen new album ‘Obsession’, two superb publications and the

fantastic new ‘Untapped Power’ vinyl deluxe edition’ I am planning to take an image of a vinyl CDs to help the readers

visualise their opportunity. At the same time I will make a link to my logo design which also contains a vintage form of

a CD. For ‘The best releases and live concerts’ I will include images which I took during concert festival in summer.

Although the image compositions are quite limited I will use my editing techniques to combine it well within the

contents page of my magazine. I will also include more than one image from the summer festival within the contents

page as I took quite a few shots of different artists which I can then apply to different features.

Furthermore, I am planning to include an image of a person shouting to the phone for the headline ‘Letters- got

something to say? Let us hear it – shout it out loud!.’ This will catch viewers attention as well as empathize the

message of the headline. At the same time it might encourage people to read the article as well as to write to the

publishing. I am planning to take these images either in a studio on a white background. Besides, I want to take an

image of a ‘tower’ made out CD’s to empathize the number of new releases which is quite large. I will take this set of

images at home as I have many CD’s which I can use. Moreover, I am planning to go through my set of images which

I took during my photography course. Then I will decide whether I can apply any of the shots to my contents features.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREADFor the double page spread I am planning to take an

portrait image which I am going to place directly on one of

the facing pages. I will use the same actor as for the front

cover of the magazine to show the clear link between the

front cover and the DPS. However, I want to make the

portrait image for the double page spread slightly different.

I want the model to be wearing only a black shirt with a

chain. This will make the image look more minimalistic as

I am planning to turn it into black and white, meaning that

a black shirt will be effectively contrasting with the bright

background. Besides, to make the image even more

interesting I am planning to take a vinyl CD to cover half

of the artist’s face. I will take the image in different angles

to see which one is the most suitable one. As an

additional prop I might also take a guitar, microphone and

beats to try different compositions. I will take the images in

a studio on a white background. Moreover, I will take

different types of shots, if my idea wont be effective in

practise. I will then decide which one is the most suitable

one. Besides, I will definitely need a camera, photographic

backgrounds and a tripod which I’ve already gathered.
