Photography Planning AS MEDIA STUDIES COURSEWORK - MUSIC MAGAZINE

Page 2: Photography Planing

In order to take photographs successfully, efficiently and suitably for my magazine, I have had to create a plan. This will allow me to ensure my photos are suitable for the magazine and are to their greatest potential.

These planned photos are intended to be used as the major images in my magazine, though I will be taking a large number of other photographs for use in other areas of the magazine.

Cover A portrait image of two models, both

Male. With an interesting but simple background such as a bricked wall or gratified building.

The image will include the models in full body, wearing suitable clothing, denim jackets or a long coat, boots and dark jeans.

Both will have naturally “rocky” poses and facial expressions.

Potential for one to be smoking to reflect ‘rebellious attitudes’.

I hope to capture the personality of both characters within the shot, perhaps contrasting each other.

Characters: Ivory Tears Natural lighting

Contents Image 1

A landscape image, medium close up, of a singular, female model.

A vibrant background which differs to the cover image. Perhaps an urban background or ‘gritty’ wall to contrast the female stereotype in order to reflect character’s persona.

A denim jacket will be worn and strong red lipstick. She will have an interesting but edgy look to her facial expression and stance.

Facial expression will be hugely important to portray the character effectively.

An edge of youthful rebellion also shown. Characters: Jailbird. Lighting Natural, outdoors.

Another Landscape image, long shot, with two male models (two shot).

Both will be stood upright, one with a prop over their shoulder.

Both will be wearing the same clothing as the cover image for continuity of their characters.

Poses and expressions once again reflect rebellion and attitudes ‘against the system’

Characters: Ivory Tears. Lighting: Flash on, indoor of

shack.

Over the shoulder shot of a person working at a mixing desk. They will be wearing studio headphones, alongside a leather jacket. The main focus of the image will be the mixing desk itself. The photograph will be landscape

orientation. Lighting: Studio Lighting. Character: Record Producer

DPS Image 1

Large, main portrait image, long shot. Characters: Ivory Tears ‘Abandoned’ location, with derelict or aged scenery. Two props, a sledge hammer and an old reel

to reel player. One of the two models will have a face of intent whilst the other blows cigarette smoke. The shot

will be taken on an angle. This will emphasise their image and add some humour to the photo also. It also bares the underlying message that they are destroying the music of old and are creating the music of today.

Natural Lighting, outdoors.

DPS Image 2

A darker, medium close up of the two models.

Characters: Ivory Tears Inside the building from the main photo.

Portrait orientation. Both hold books and proceed to burn them

with intent. This furthers the rebellious image I have created and truly indicates this to the reader.

Artificial Lighting, Flash will be used to show some of the inside of the cabin.
