Phases of the Moon
Phases of the Moon Moon’s Light – The moon gets its light from the
Sun, it does not make its own light like a star Lunar Revolution – the moon revolves around
the Earth one time every 28-31 days (29.5 days average)
The Moon changes shape as it revolves around the Earth, these are called Phases
Waxing vs. Waning Waxing – when the moon is growing or getting
bigger (Moon is on the Right)
Waning – when the moon is shrinking or getting smaller (Moon is on the Left)
Phases of the Moon
Phases of the Moon New Moon – no moon, the moon is not
visible
Crescent Moon - less than half of the moon is visible
Quarter Moon - half of the moon is visible
Gibbous Moon – more than half of the moon is visible
Full Moon – ALL of the moon is visible
