Wikiversity is both1. a repository of resources, and2. a space for learning

This represents a significant widening of thedefinition of OER

Also, a significant challenge to facilitate andmanage

As an open repository…

In an editable environment, is a resource ever‘finished’?

Can anyone edit this material; should there besome level of control?

Can a resource be ‘not good enough’?

What is quality; what is ‘good’?(For whom, and who decides?)

As an open space for learning…How do we engage learners; how do we encourage

them to participate?

How do we become people-centred, as opposed tocontent-centred? (Leinonen, Vadén & Suoranta,2009)

As both repository and space…

Is there a tension between quality of content andopportunities for participation?

How much room is there for people to experimentand learn?

These are significant challenges…

…but ones we need to take seriously if we areserious about opening up education
