Health There are three excursions, which assess different aspects of the provision for health in Hong Kong.

The three excursions will lead to a final project where you will create a website on a “Health in Hong Kong” theme. Here is our weekly schedule of excursions. A) Bowen Road Storyboard

B. Aberdeen Risk Assessment

The Aberdeen Hike Route Directions with Risk Assessment

1. Start at Wan Chai Gap. Take the path/road marked 'Black's Link' for

approximately 1.2km until you reach a pavilion on your right.

2. At the pavilion turn right onto the Hong Kong trail taking stone steps

downhill. Be careful of a drop on the left side.

3. Continue on the Hong Kong trail for about 500m until you reach a viewpoint with a picture board pointing out places from Violet Hill to Ocean Park.

4. At the picture board the path turns into a minor road. Follow this for 500m until you reach a T-junction.

5.Turn left at the T-junction, signposted to Aberdeen Reservoir.

6.Follow the minor road downhill. After 400m the road turns into stone steps. Then you reach a watercourse.

7.Turn right, signposted to Aberdeen Reservoir.

8.Follow the path by the watercourse for about 900m. Along a short stretch of the watercourse there is no rail (potential hazard).

9.You will reach a picnic area. Go straight on, ignoring the many turns to the

left and right.

10. After 100m you will see a turn off to the right, which is a picnic area and a

pebble path for foot massage. You are already in Aberdeen Country Park.

11. After another 100m you will see a map board on your right. Go straight on ignoring the left turn.

12.You will soon arrive at a large barbecue area with tables and another pebble path. If time permits we will break here.

13. After 200m in total you will reach the dam at the base of Aberdeen Upper reservoir. Cross the dam and immediately turn left.

14.You are now on the 'Fitness Trail'. You will see some monkey bars to your

right. Descend some stone steps and pass more exercise equipment.

15.After 500m the path will turn into a minor road. After a further 100m you

reach the exit of Aberdeen Country Park.

16. Descend the road into Aberdeen taking care of traffic. After 200m there is a small rest area on the left.

Total distance (approx.) 4.8km

The Minimum Wage Lunch Challenge in Aberdeen Each group of 2 now joins forces with another to form a group of 4. It would be ideal if at least one person in your group could speak or read at least some Cantonese. You must now effectively collaborate using your risk conscious

way of thinking to overcome the following tasks in safety.

As a group of four you must work together to complete the following data collection tasks in a short amount of time. You must stay together as a group throughout this activity.

This is an imaginary activity as you would have snacked on your hike earlier in the day. You will return to school in time for your own lunch as normal. You would have been hiking for just over two hours. Imagine if you were a blue collar employee in Hong Kong. The HK government has set the minimum wage for this year at $28 per hour. As it nearly lunchtime in Aberdeen, imagine you had earned just $52 and you wanted to treat yourself you a decent lunch, after all you have been labouring hard for the past two hours! You need to photo/ video log and record your choices and add up the cost of your various purchases. Aberdeen Town Centre has many dining opportunities. Within the confines of the town centre itself search for the best healthy options to spend your $52 on a good lunch. The three options you should research are

1. Take away options What can $52 buy you at a convenience store like 7Eleven or Circle K What take away outlets offer healthy food? (e.g. do Mcdonald's sell salad?) Do any supermarkets offer take away food choices?

2. Eat in options What healthy options can you buy from budget chains like Cafe de Coral and Pizza Hut? What do locally run budget restaurants offer?

3. Cook at home options Now imagine you were shopping for foods for lunch that you took home to cook. What healthy foods could you buy to cook from wet markets, or supermarkets or markets stalls

The park provides a wide range of cycling facilities, including an elevated

cycling track of approximate 1 kilometre in length, cycling area for beginners, and a BMX area. The cycling facilities are open free-of-charge for cyclists of all

ages and different skill levels. We will be using the intermediate and

beginner’s tracks and hiring the bicycles from a private vendor on the grounds.
