Additional Notes About the Advanced Cities Aspect of Ancient Egypt

Prompt One: Why were cities so important? What factors made these cities popular or known? Prompt Two: What else may we want to know about these cities? Prompt Three: Is there anything unique about these cities?

Ÿ The Sphinx of Giza symbolizes strength. The Sphinx’s beard has eroded over time and the nose of the monument was intriguingly shot off by Turkish soldiers. It has been also intriguingly proved that the Sphinx has been buried by sand found in the desert and It (the sand) has been dug out from the monument a myriad of times.

Ÿ All the pyramids and the duration of architecture took place during the third    and fourth dynasties.

Ÿ The Pyramids of Menkaura and Khafre    are the only pyramids that contain a partial or any percentage of makeup of granite. These pyramids are also located in Giza.

Ÿ Many pyramids during the age of the Old Kingdom including the Mekaura, Khafre, and Kafhre began their building during the reign of the Kings (times not specified). The completion of this building was not over until after the Kings’ reign. This trend was found between these three pyramids.

Ÿ The city of Thebes was known for containing the dead and deceased of A. Egypt. Thebes contained buried people but more vitally important figures including pharaohs.

Ÿ The temples of the Ancient Egypt were found in Thebes. Ÿ Landforms of the city included: mountains, the Nile River, cliffs, and hills ( made of

limestone where some people were buried there as well).

Ÿ The City of El- Omari was a city located in A Egypt and is dated back to ( so the start of the city) at 4000 BCE. Housing: This Lower-Egypt city was a large landscape containing huts that were surrounded with reed fences. The fences acted like perimeters. The flooring of the huts were usually in bad shape.

Ÿ The city contained bins. These bins were used as containers for crops and these crops were taken out when ready to eat.

Ÿ Round Pits: pits were dug to contain the bodies of those who died in the villages. Ÿ The city of Saqqara is located West of the Nile River of A. Egypt.Ÿ Considered the city of the dead; The city also contained buildings that were started

but were never finished. Ÿ As time continued and burial ideas evolved, a long, wide region underground led to a

collective of dead bodies that were once buried in pits. Ÿ After some time, buildings were decisively covered these regions. Bodies were not

removed from these regions. However, they remained under these buildings. Ÿ Earlier pyramids made up mud and wood.Ÿ Architecture began to evolve during the third dynasty and limestone instead, was used

to assist in building these pyramids.
