Theme 1

Treatment of animals in ancient times….King Ashoka was transformed into a gentle king from a ruthless one after the battle of Kalinge.He outlawed the sacrifice of animals. He enforced laws to prevent animal from being killed. Moreover he laid the pillars of compassion towards animals among citizens.

Bird Hospital in DelhiThe hospital was started in Chandni Chowk,Delhi in 1929. It takes care of eagles, crows and other small birds. The birds stay here ,rest feed on grains and drink water before flying off to their destinations. Over 30-40 birds arrive at the hospital in a day. It has a research laboratory and an intensive care unit for its serious patients.

Unique Hospital Down Under…..Healesville Sanctuary situated in the heart of Yarra Valley,Victoria,Australia. It sprawls across 70 acres of bush land. Australian Wildlife Health Centre is a working veterinary hospital treating over 1500 animals which include kangaroos,platypus,koalas and wombats. The hospital conducts intensive research into conservation medicine and also plays a vital role in wildlife disease surveillance.

A man’s best companion in trying timesDressed in bold stripes of maroon and gold ,these impressive dogs are trained for explosives and mine detection ,Tracking and assault. They are selected on the basis of their alertness, temper and aggression . They are trained thrice a day . The RVC regiment of the Indian Army has won gallantry awards for fighting a group of infiltrator’s along the LOC.Hats off to these canines and their masters for their bravery.

Poaching PangsAnimal poaching is when an animal is killed illegally because it possesses something which is considered valuable.It has endangered several animal species . Also some of the species are on the verge of extinction.
