• The Table of Contents command creates a table of contents from headings to which built-in heading styles have been applied.

• A table of contents can also be created from custom styles, using outline levels, or by marking entries to be included.

• A table of contents can be modified manually or automatically after it has been created.• Table of contents entries can be used as hyperlinks to move to the appropriate page in either

Web Layout or Print Layout view.

1. Position the insertion point where the table of contents is to be created.

2. Click Table of Contents to display the Built-In gallery.

3. Click Automatic Table 2 to insert the TOC and the title Table of Contents.

4. Position the title at 2". Tap ENTER twice.5. To remove a table of contents, click

Remove Table of Contents.

2. Follow the path and choose the desired heading level in the options list.

3. Click in the table of contents and click Update Table.

You may also key text directly in a table of contents. Use the Format Painter to copy format, then key the page number.

1. Click Format Page Numbers to display the Page Number Format dialog box.

2. Click the Number format drop-list arrow and select the desired page number.

3. If necessary, set the starting page number.

1. Select the item to be captioned.2. In the Caption text box, space once after

the number and key the caption.3. In the Label list, select the desired label;

e.g., Figure, Table, Equation.4. In the Position list, select Above selected

item or Below selected item.5. Click the Numbering button to choose the

desired number format.6. Click New Label to create a new label

group.
