hospital lab testing.


Medtronic Heart Valves in Irvine gained FDA

approval for their Freestyle Aortic Root

Bioprosthesis, a stentless tissue valve.


Edwards Lifesciences and CoreValve from Irvine have developed techniques for implanting aortic valves without major surgery.


UCI School of Medicine developed a new anti-wrinkle laser

– Fraxel.


Allergan of Irvine developed the technology

of Botox.


Alsius Corp. of Irvine introduced a new

system for regulating the body temperature of critically ill patients

by catheter.


Thermage of Hayward introduced a new

method for combating cellulite, using specially

designed detachable tips.


Eyeonics of Aliso Viejo has the latest advances

in lens-replacement technology – Crystalens.


Crystalens, used to replace cataract-clouded lenses, can focus like a natural lens, changing shape in response to eye-muscle movement.


SenoRx of Aliso Viejo launched its Contura

MLB system for catheter-delivered

breast-cancer radiation, reducing treatment time.

Research and Development

Beckman Coulter Inc. is developing a new type of blood test with the HIV virus to help 20 million

people in Africa.


Spectrum Pharmaceuticals of

Irvine is developing a bladder-cancer drug

called EOquin.


Avanir Pharmaceuticals of Aliso Viejo has started

testing its drug Zenvia as a treatment for involuntary

emotional expression disorder.


Meyer Pharmaceuticals from Irvine is developing a patented segment of DNA

that blocks the body’s inflammation response.
